OneSearch is the discovery tool of HSUHK Library. Reference detials on OneSearch can be export to RefWorks directly.
2. Sign in RefWorks
3. Select to the designated location (The project name, the folder you have created before).
4. The reference will be shown on the top of the Last Imported list and the assigned folder as well.
Many academic databases support exporting references to different citation management tools, such as RefWorks, Endnotes, Zotero and etc.
The ways to import references from databases may vary. The basic principle is to look for the option for export or citation on the database interface. Usually, there may be 2 scenarios.
1. When direct export references to RefWorks is supported
i) Select the title(s) that need to be imported
ii) Use the export or citation option, and select RefWorks for exporting
iii) Find the export function and select RefWorks
iv) You will be directed to the RefWorks sign in page if you have not yet sign in your RefWorks account.
v) The selected reference(s) will be added to your RefWorks library.
2. When direct export references to RefWorks is NOT supported
i) Select the title(s) that need to be imported
ii) Use the export or citation option, and select RIS file for exporting
iii) Sign in your RefWorks account.
iv) Click + > Import references to upload the downloaded RIS file
Note: All imported references can be found in "Last Imported" page & "Not in Folder" under "My Folder"
1. Click on the article title in your results list and choose Export on the right-hand side of your screen.
2. Click on the radio button for Direct Export to RefWorks and then click the yellow Save tab.
3. Select to the designated location (The project name, the folder you have created before) on RefWorks interface.
4. The reference will be shown on the top of the Last Imported list and the assigned folder as well.
1. Select the references by clicking the Folder icon, and click Folder View after selection
2. In the folder view, click Export
3. Select Direct Export to RefWorks

1. Select the title(s) from the list of search results
2. Click download RIS, the RIS file will be downloaded immediately
3. Open the RefWorks, click Add > Important references
4. After selecting the RIS file for uploading, select the RIS format from the dropdown menu (For better recognition of the data)

Save to RefWorks is a handy a tool of Refworks for different web browsers. It helps to extract information and fulltext from webpages and add it to your RefWorks library.
1. Click Tools > Tools
2. Drag the Save to RefWorks button to the favorites bar or bookmark bar of the browser.
3. Click the Save to RefWorks button from your favorite bar or bookmark bar, RefWorks will pop up on the right of the viewing page. It will attempt to extract information from the page. Click Save to RefWorks button in the pop up box to add the citation to your RefWorks library.
Notes: You may edit the information in the pop up box before importing or edit it later in your RefWorks account
Notes: All imported citations from Save to RefWorks can be found in "Last Imported" page & "Not in Folder" under "My Folder"
Reference information can be added manually to your RefWorks library.
1. Click the + button and choose to Create new reference
2. Enter the fields in the pop up panel on the right of the screen.
Remarks and tips:
a. Select reference type first - fields will be changed according to the selected type of reference
b. Click the Quick Search icon after entering the title would help to search for a matched resource and fill in the fields automatically
(ISSN and DOI may also be used for the quick match)
c. Authors' name are formatted as Last Name, First Name [don't miss out the comma (,)] and authors are separated by a semi-colon (;)
d. More information can also be added to the citation record by clicking on Add more fields
Refworks allows creating references from uploaded documents. It will attempt to extract the citation information from the uploaded text files (e.g. docx, pdf ...) automatically.
Note: Always double check all the auto-generated information, and fill in other necessary fields manually
Documents can be uploaded by clicking from RefWorks menu or dragging the files directly from your computer to a specified folder on your RefWorks.
